I didn't see much of this series, but I know it's over now. Did anybody watch any of this? How long would you last in a 140º kitchen with someone screaming at you at the top of his lungs?

Oddly enough, I didn't. I loved Gordon's first show. Watching him berate Owners and stupid Head Chefs was really fun. I found it amazing that these people got jobs in the first place. The second show where he berates his staff left a bad taste in my mouth. That doesn't seem right to me, not at all. Especially after talking to Shuna about it and how she deals with people working for her. She feels that during her career other chefs were very kind to her and showed her the ropes, she now passes her knowledge on to others in a kind but firm way. I've had bosses that shout and are cruel to others, it gets you no place. Blyah.
I have looked in on Bourdain's new show on the Travel Channel though. Last night was show #2, in Iceland! The first show, "Why France Doesn't Suck" was really odd and I realized why. It's the travel channel for crissakes. They have a chef as a tour guide and for me, it isn't quite working yet. The jury is still out on this one.
Biggles
I've worked with very few screamers. If it works for you, fine, but I'm very put off by that type of leadership.
All I've ever wanted from an employer is to be given enough rope to hang myself, which I've done a few times.
Yeah, huh. Good point, I like that.
Had a nasty lunch. Tried an Indian Restaurant I'd never been to. Sauces were tasteless, yet full of ghee and they clearly didn't have a tandoor oven. The naan was funky and the tandoori chicken was just oven roasted with sauce.
I want the residue out of my mowf.
Bleech, dude. I've got a lunch meeting in a bit at a local Thai place that's actually pretty good. Hopefully I'll have a better experience.
OT (of course). I have made the very fine Middle-Eastern fast-food dinner this very tonight. Indeedly. Super fresh falafel. Made the falafel and the pita from scratch, cut up the veggies, shoved it all together and wow that was good. Not like any falafel I've ever tasted before. I think that it usually calls for chick pea flour and reconstituting it, but using the real thing with fresh herbs, onions, garlic, and spices is a totally different bird. The recipe came from my mom's 1960's Joy of Cooking (dried bean patties). I followed it for ballpark measurements but just riffed on the ingredients. And home-made pita bread is a complete no-brainer. No reason to buy it in the store (King Arthur Flour Companion recipe, as usual). Tastes so much better fresh. Night and day. Anyway, the only thing that was missing was a spoonful of yogurt. Eh. It was still good. The home-grown tomatoes, they were goo-ood. Lord I love to cook.
Wow, that sounds amazing and better than what I had. After a late Thai lunch, I nuked a leftover BBQd brat that was in the freezer.
My recipe- take brat and bun from freezer. Nuke bun for 20 seconds while toaster oven is heating up. Put bun in toaster oven while you nuke the cooked brat for 1:15. Garnish with whatever's close and easy.
I'm still recovering from New Mexico night on Sunday. It will be a few days before I'll be cooking anything of any substance.
welll, i actually enjoyed the show (sorry, you don't know me. i just googled "hell's kitchen" and it came up with you. I live in antarctica.) Heather won, which was good... ramsay was a bitch but he knew what he was doing.
lalalalalala-
Thanks for stopping by! I missed the final episode, I'm glad it was Heather, really.
